About Us

South Austin Aikido is a community of people working together to create a dynamic and evolving understanding of the art, of each other, and of how we relate to the world. Aikido is more than just a system of defense, and we do not train simply to defeat opponents. We train to understand ourselves, to improve our response to adversity, and to grow through our practice. Beginners and new faces are always welcome. The progress of each individual student is nurtured and celebrated by everyone at our dojo.

South Austin Aikido is a non-profit school devoted to the purpose of teaching Aikido to the Austin community, founded and run by a non-profit educational organization: South Austin Aikido Association, Inc. We are a group of individuals with many years of Aikido practice and teaching experience, who are dedicated to spreading the principles and art of Aikido. Membership is open to all: the Association and any of its associated entities, does not discriminate based upon age, sex, race, sexual orientation, handicap, color, nationality, or creed.

Aikido Shimbokukai Affiliation

Our dojo is an affiliate of the Aikido Shimbokukai under the Direction of Lisa Tomoleoni Sensei. Aikido Shimbokukai is affiliated with World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

Aikido is not an art to fight with enemies and defeat them. It is a way to lead all human beings to live in harmony with one another, as though everyone was part of one family.
